Times Have Changed!

Times have changed! We use to talk in terms of 10 year trends. Now conditions may change drastically in a week.

Communications is the topic today. It seems that we have moved from telephone through cell phone, e-mail and web sites to text, blogs and social networking. Some are now predicting that social networking has become unmanageable to the point that it may be passing.

So what is next? From an information transfer standpoint, webinars and web meetings seem to the preferred method of both organizations and precipitants. It makes sense from a cost, delivery and a time management prospective to embrace these methods. Although these mediums have been around for quite awhile, they seem to be picking up as more and more organizations embrace them. Even small companies are better served by identifying and addressing issues to their field staff through the internet rather than meetings that are costly.

Who wants to attend a meeting that could address an issue in a few minutes via internet that instead consumes half a day considering drive time and attendance? There are still concerns from those who have not embraced using these methods stemming from lack of self confidence or concern about whether or not their people will participate.  Fear of change always has the impact of slowing some from participating. However, the benefit of this type of information transfer so outweigh the alternative, buy in usually occurs quickly once applied.

Once adopted as a method of communicating, participation is not negotiable. How could someone expect to perform effectively without participating in the organizations information flow?
